This is according to Francois Strydom, Senwes Group Executive Officer, in reaction to the losses – amounting to millions of rand, incurred during the widespread veld fires. It is estimated that more than 100 000 hectares of grazing land have been destroyed while there have also been huge losses of livestock and game.

“The Senwes Group is committed to supporting our customers and the communities that are affected by these fires,” says Francois and adds that in light of the severity of the situation, assistance will be provided under the auspices of the AVC Food Umbrella project. Arrangements in this regard will be communicated shortly.

“The AVC Food Umbrella project was initially launched with times like this in mind: a time when people need hope and help,” says Francois while explaining that the project was designed in such a way that it not only aids vulnerable individuals and communities, but also livestock.

Given the dire need that currently exists for animal feed in the affected areas, an urgent plea is made for donations of maize that will be distributed via organised agricultural structures to producers affected by the fires. Donations can be made by delivering maize at any Senwes Grainlink silo on delivery number 418688 with the reference #FireRelief.

Cash donations or contributions in the form of other commodities can also be made on the AVC Food Umbrella website at www.senwes.co.za/avc-food-umbrella, after which a representative of Senwes will be in contact with you.
